Trinity Well restoration update - 27.4.08
The Parish Council is happy to announce that after
many years of discussing this project we are about to start work.
We have a grant of £10,000 from Awards for All towards
the total cost, about £18,000. We have another £5,000 in hand from Parish
Council and Village Hall Committee resources. We have been very pleased to
receive a donation from somebody born in Rackenford in memory of her
parents. We have applied for another
grant for the rest, but any further donations would be extremely welcome.
Fred Phillips will be lifting the cap and excavating
the
well in the next few days. Volunteers are wanted for
the final cleaning out – please speak to Fred or Michael Lane. Mr J Hughes, the
cob builder, will then mark out the foundations which Fred will lay. The
building will go up over the summer and the thatched roof will then be laid by
Mr Eric Puffett. All this will be very interesting to watch.
The School will be working on the information about
wild life and farm animals to be seen from Rackenford paths, which will be
inside the pumphouse. So will footpath maps
and reminiscences about the use of the well for water supply.
We expect the finished work to bring in a lot of
walkers, who will use the Shop and The Stag.
